First the disclaimer: I was sent this pump for free to test out in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. That also means I had a deadline for getting a review posted with feedback, so I’m pretty limited in how much I can say to whether this can offer any permanent effects or long-term changes.
Okay, possibly relevant information about me: Male, 39, healthy, active, and fit. I’m generally satisfied with my penis size (I’ll just say I am safely within the advertised range of this pump to fit 6-8 inch penis). My wife and I have sex on a near daily basis and my erection quality is pretty consistent but once or twice each month it’s not unusual to have some level of issue achieving erection. I did think that the pump would be a great product to sample to help with those poor performance days or see if there was any noticeable change in size in the time used.
With all that said, the short review is that my experience using this pump on the recommended routines had an adverse effect on my sexual performance and thusly diminished enjoyment for my wife and I over the last 4 weeks.
Negative feedback:
- On days that I pumped in the morning I was more likely to struggle to have an erection at our normal time for sex together (bedtime, more than 12 hours later).
- On the occasions we attempted to use the pump as a prelude to sex to try and force a plumped erection it again had the opposite effect. My wife said it looked great, but it felt spongy - even after I got hard enough for penetration it wasn't *hard*. It really did increase the visual appeal of my soft penis, but it stayed soft for much more of our time than desired. Which is exactly the opposite of the desired effect.
- I was also never able to use the pump to “force” an erection. Even trying to incorporate cockrings to pump to erection the best I could do was a spongy semi-hard that was all for show and not a functional erection.
- On days that I pumped I found myself more sensitive all day long to the point of having a rather irritated penis head and increased frequent urination. In the extreme worst experience I definitely overdid it in the first couple days to the point that my penis/urethra was so irritated from overuse and water that I did end up paying a visit to the doc to rule out UTI after 3 days of irritation.
With that out of the way, here’s the positive feedback:
- Once I got the hang of the use, pumping with warm water was an enjoyable experience and felt great to feel my penis swelling in the tube of warm water.
- Post-pump engorgement was real. I’m more a grower than a shower and after each round of pumping I was hanging flaccid at a length comparable to my erect size. After good pump days my girth regularly measured a quarter to half inch larger flaccid than my normal erections.
- The full pump effect really faded within minutes, maybe up to a half hour, but I did find myself to be hanging longer and fatter than “normal” throughout the day. So days I pumped I found myself just a little more aware of my penis size and sensitivity through the day.
- Whole kit feels pretty high quality with a neato black case with a combination lock for discreet storage, washcloth, sponge for cleaning, etc. . The handball valve/pump make it easy to fine-tune pressure in session and the quick release valve even allows you to let off if you over pump and then readjust with the ball.
- I’ll reiterate that wife thought it looked great after pumping, but it felt spongey and was not useful to her.
Other feedback:
- It was really fiddly to get the hang of using and required not just going to the Bathmate website for directions but also searching other reviews and online discussions for how to get better function (pro tip: use a squishy cockring or ball stretcher around your balls to keep from getting sucked into the tube, and use your lube of choice around the base of the pump to help get a seal. Also lube up your penis to keep from sticking to the tube. I like coconut oil for both).
- It does start to feel like a waste of water if you keep the shower running the whole time you’re sitting with the pump on your penis - up to 15 minutes a day - or fill the whole tub up just to stay warm. I found some happy medium with my routine that didn’t involve either of those things, but it felt very wasteful of both time and water resources.
- Recommended sizing could use some improvement. My “normal” erection length is safely inside the advertised “6-8 inches” but there’s a LOT of wide open space in the pump and feels just a lot bigger than it needs to be (And, according to the manufacturer’s website and entering in my dimensions they recommend the smaller HydroXtreme7.
- Even my negative experience aside, I would have a hard time recommending this pump at the current listed price point ($329).
In sum, at least for me it has not supported any improved erection quality and over the long term no amount of temporary enlargement is worth ongoing erection issues. At the end of the day I want to give my wife the functioning penis that she’s loved for twenty years a whole lot more than I want to see a fat floppy in the bathroom.

When you unbox it you can instantly tell it’s a high quality item. Not like the thin plastic ones of used before.
Better than I could imagine
I've often wondered how these bathmates compare to others and honestly, this thing is great.
It comes with everything you need and more, from a cleaning pad/liquid, towel to dry it and measuring equipment all tucked neatly into a case with a combination padlock to keep it safe. If feel like a good quality product as they include a checklist sheet to ensure you've received everything you need and everything feels and looks well made.
In the past I have used air penis pumps and always found it tricky to know how much was enough, but with the bathmate, using water or air it's really easy to use and you can fine tune the pressure with the attachable hand pump. I don't think I've ever experienced such a hard erection since my teenage years and after just 1 use it lasts for quite a while and feels slightly bigger and ready for action.
Once you're session is over there's a quick release valve on the top which allows for a fast and controlled depressurisation and with the clear casing it allows you to track the length as you progress to a bigger size. I've been using it quite frequently for 3 weeks now and I don't know if it's in my mind but I feel slightly bigger and a bit more confident in myself. I highly recommend the bathmate if you struggle with ED or just want a slightly longer and girthier penis, but you do need to use it frequently to see the benefits.

Having tried several air penis pumps in the past, I was really curious and excited to finally get my hands on a Bathmate hydropump, and find out whether penis pumping with water lived up to the hype? Well, I’m totally pumped to say that the Bathmate HydroXtreme8 is definitely no damp squib! With powerful suction, assisted by the hydroxtreme hand pump, this is definitely a piece of kit that will continue to hydro-enhance my hard-on for many bathtimes to come!
The first thing to say is that the HydroXtreme8 is a large piece of kit. Well, with enough depth and circumference to accommodate schlongs of between 6 and 8 inches you’d expect it to be quite roomy. It feels solidly made and has a clear chamber with measuring scale at the front so you can see your progress as you manhood swells inside. In fact the visual effect is quite something, as the combination of the curved clear plastic chamber, and the water inside, creates quite the visual distortion so that your water-pumped, colossal cock looks like something even Poseidon himself would be proud of!
The HydroXtreme8 is really easy to use once you’ve taken a glance at the user guide. I used it mainly in the bath, and found that it was pretty easy to achieve a vacuum tight seal around the pubic bone, even without trimming my pubes. The pumping mechanism is quite intuitive, but as the vacuum increases it gets more difficult to pump, and you can find yourself pressing pretty forcefully against your pubic bone. That’s where the hand pump included with the HYDROXTREME model comes in really handy, as it allows you to create even more pump with minimal effort. I tended to start off with the main bellows pumping mechanism to get things started, and then fine-tuned the vacuum and degree of pump with the hand pump. I would advise getting to grips with the quick-release mechanism before you get pumping too vigorously, as this device is pretty powerful. I really liked being able to use this pump in the bath, and the feel of warm water around my cock was quite different from my air pump experiences. It felt a bit more relaxed. However, after some trial and error I would strongly suggest using a cock ring around your balls to make it more difficult for them to get sucked up into the pump – ouch!
After the first time I used the HydroXtreme8 I noticed that my length was slightly increased, but that my girth was significantly enhanced. It felt like I had a satisfying swollen schlong in my hand, which, to my surprise, lasted for a few hours after use. Also, I noticed that in contrast to the times when I’ve used an air pump in the past, there was no significant reddening, bruising or other form of skin irritation after having used the HydroXtreme8. I’m not sure if this was partly due to the hydro-method of pumping, with the warm water perhaps being a little more gentle on the skin?
Also, there’s a whole bundle of goodies that come with this particular model of Bathmate, including a leather-effect carry bag, to which you can apply a mini-padlock (included) to keep your pumping paraphernalia private. There’s also a smart, Bathmate-branded white flannel, a mini-cleaning kit (including sponge, handle and cleaning fluid), a shower strap (which enables you to use the Bathmate and whilst standing up in the shower) and a full user guide. I even received a surprise booklet on jelqing together with a small sachet of ‘jelqing enhancement serum’. In short, there’s been a lot of thought that has been put into this bundle, with many practicalities having been taken into account (storage, privacy, cleaning). Talking of which – this pump is super easy to clean – well you’re using it in water anyway! But just a wash with some soapy water and the cleaning sponge does the trick, but you can also use the cleaning solution included. The box came with a hand-completed packing slip which indicated that the contents had been checked to ensure that all elements were included, before being distributed. It’s this kind of attention to detail that inspires customer confidence and reassurance.
My only slight gripes are that the bag is a little whiffy (not sure what synthetic materials it’s made of), and I originally looked up an instruction manual online before belatedly discovering that the user guide (and jelqing guide) had actually been put into the side pocket of the bag! Maybe including these more visibly within the box would have been a better idea as initially I wasn’t too impressed with what I mistakenly perceived to be a lack of instructions.
In summary, the Bathmate HydroXtreme8 is a great penis pump for someone who’s looking for an alternative to air pumping, enjoys using toys in the bath or shower, and who’s towards the more generously endowed size. For me, the chamber was probably a bit bigger than I really needed, but it didn’t stop me from getting the full benefit from the pump. At least with it being on the large side there’s ‘plenty of room to grow’! Also, this particular bundle is really well thought-out and is perfect for someone who’s looking for an easy to use, no fuss piece of kit which can be kept reasonably discreetly and securely in the bottom of the wardrobe. My final verdict on hydro-pumping – “you’ll take to it, like a dick to water!”
